What is ENERGY MEDICINE?
Energy medicine refers to therapies that use an energy field such as electrical, magnetic, sonic, acoustic, microwave, and infrared which screens or treats health conditions by detecting imbalances in the body's energy fields and then corrects them. The detection of energy level imbalances in the body is essential for providing an early warning system for potential disruptions in chemical balance that may lead to disease. Balance can then be restored using holistic therapies, or with treatment devices that rebalance the energy levels of the various fields before the chemical or structural disturbances can occur.

What is MSA?
Longwood Healing Center and Spa uses the MSA (Meridian Stress Assessment) machine by Bio Meridian to test for imbalances in your body. It is a state of the art computerized system that measures electrical resistance at specific acupuncture points. These acupuncture points correspond to specific organs and tissues and give a general indication of the health of the organ tissue as a whole. The MSA device is FDA approved.

What is the BioSET METHOD for allergies?
BioSET is the name of a treatment for eliminating allergies which was founded by Ellen Cutler, M.D., D.C. The BioSET method focuses on the treatment of allergy related conditions, digestive disorders, immune dysfunction, and many other types of chronic illnesses. The development of this method stemmed from Dr. Cutler's work in the allergy elimination field with a pioneer acupuncture physician by the name of Devi Nambudripad, A.P. Dr. Nambudripad was the first person to design a treatment protocol for allergy elimination called NAET, Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique. The BioSET method focuses on the treatment of allergy related conditions and the words allergy and related need to be separated. It is similar to having an "EKG" at your doctor's office to read the electrical output of your heart. This painless method of testing can uncover "allergies" and "sensitivities" in a matter of minutes.

What to expect?
During your first visit you will be evaluated for approximately 40 minutes by the MSA machine for electrical imbalances in your body's organs, systems, immune functions and hormones. You will be seated comfortably and asked to hold a brass tube connected to the computer. A technician will place a stylus- much like a pen and also connected to the computer- onto your finger, which feeds the information into the computer. The measurements recorded provide a profile of your present condition. Your results are reviewed and analyzed. If stress values are above or below equilibrium, the system's extensive computer database will allow consideration of a wide range of possibilities that will help you regain a healthy balance. Next, you will be desensitized with the BioSET method using a breathing exercise. Your practitioner will gently activate acupressure points on your back. No needles, no pain whatsoever. It's as easy as that!

How many treatments are necessary?
Even though every patient manifests disease and allergies differently, an average person in relatively good health requires 5-15 treatments. Some people with severe allergies will require additional treatments. Treatments usually take one half hour with the exception of the first visit, which takes about 15 minutes longer.

Are there any special instructions after treatment?
People who suffer from food allergies should expect to avoid those foods for a period of six hours after treatment. Airborne allergy sufferers will be asked to wear a mask and gloves provided by our office. These are worn for six hours after the treatment and prevent the patient from being re-exposed to the allergen. If you suffer from airborne allergies, it is advisable that you plan specific days and times to allow for the wearing of the mask and gloves.
